Buckingham Palace has announced that Zara Phillips, the granddaughter of the Queen, is pregnant with her first child, which is due in the early months on 2014.
Zara, who is married to England rugby star Mike Tindall and daughter of Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips, is a little over three months pregnant. The child will be 16th in line to the throne and the Queen’s fourth grandchild, after Zara’s brother’s two children and the baby due to be born to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in the next few weeks.
Her brother, Peter Phillips, said "Everyone is delighted, really, really happy for both of them" and that he was looking forward to his two daughters having cousins as he had enjoyed growing up with lots of family around.
Zara, who is an Olympic silver medallist in eventing, has continued to compete during her pregnancy so far, and she has been entered in more upcoming events but will not compete for Britain in the European Championships in August. She follows in the footsteps of Britain’s Mary King, who won six team gold’s at the World Eventing Championships and continued to compete until she was more than five months pregnant.
