Mother's Need More 'Me' Time

Mother's Need More 'Me' Time

A new study has revealed that mothers only get approximately 17 minutes to themselves in any one day.

That adds up to no more than 90 minutes of me time per week. This hour and a half is most usually spent catching up on television programmes, lying in bed, reading a book or sitting down to a cup of tea.

The poll also showed that 51 per cent of those surveyed enjoyed no personal time at all for weeks on end, whilst 75 per cent of the 2,000 mothers polled complained of feeling as though their lives were entirely given over to other people.

Other complaints included a belief that the household jobs were not equally shared between themselves and their partner and a lack of time to indulge in hobbies or explore their own interests. There was a definite sense of resentment from mothers against their male partners, complaining that men are able to switch off more easily and have more time to themselves.

When mothers do have a spare moment, it seems that most of them retreat to their bedroom to relax. The highlight of their week is when they are able to watch a favourite TV programme undisturbed.
