Create a blog

Once you have logged in to Direct2Mum using your username and password, click on 'Blogs'

and then click on 'Create Blog'

To be presented with a form that you use to describe your blog.


This is the title of your blog that will show up across the Direct2Mum website as well as in e-mails to users.


This is the main image that is associated with your blog. Click on the 'm' logo to load the Picture Gallery.

Picture Gallery

The picture gallery has two sections. The first section lists all of the pictures that are currently available in the system for you to use.

To use one of these existing pictures, click on one and then choose 'Use Selection'. To view more pictures click 'See More…'

The second section is for uploading your own picture.

Click on 'Choose File' or 'Browse…' and select a file from your computer. The file should be in a JPG or PNG format and be less than 800KB in size. A square image is also preferable.

Click 'Upload' to upload the picture from your computer and attach it as your blog picture.

Blog Description

This is a description of you and your blog.

Rich Text Editor

The editor used for the blog description, and other content across the Direct2Mum website allows the content to be formatted in an attractive way. It also supports the copy-and-paste of content from Microsoft Word.

The first four buttons control the basic formatting of your text. Highlight some text and click the buttons to toggle Bold, Italic, Underline and Block Quote.

The next two buttons also control the formatting but will clear any values selected using the previous four buttons. Where you have lots of headers in your text, make sure you choose the correct value from the first of these buttons. Using headers this way also helps search engines find your blog. The second of these two buttons clears any formatting already applied to your text.

You may choose the first of the next two buttons to convert the highlighted text into a bullet list. Alternatively, a numbered list may be inserted using the other button.

The text alignment may be controlled by the following four buttons: left, centre, right and justify.

If you make a mistake during your edit, click the undo button. Click the redo button to undo the undo.

To insert a horizontal line into the text click the first of the next three buttons.

To insert a picture click the middle of the three. You will then be asked to select a picture to insert by clicking 'Select Picture' (see Picture Gallery above).

You should also enter values into the remaining boxes before clicking 'Add Image'. These are:

  • Alt Text - A brief description of the image
  • Width - The width in pixels of the image
  • Height - The height in pixels of the image
  • Align - The image alignment

Click 'Add Image' to insert the image into the rich text editor.

To insert a link click the last of these three buttons and enter the following information:

  • Link text - The text to convert into a link
  • Link URL - The URL to link the text to
  • Target - How the link should be opened when clicked

Click 'Add link' to insert the link into the rich text editor.

The Cut, Copy and Paste buttons may be used to help you edit your post, especially when you need to paste content from another program such as Microsoft Word. To achieve this, firstly open Word and highlight and then copy the text you wish to insert. Then on Direct2Mum, click on the last of these three buttons and paste the content into the box (right-click, Paste) and click 'Submit'.

The final button is for editing the code for the post directly and is not recommended unless you know what you're doing!


This is a selection of one or more categories for your blog. To choose more than one category, hold down the control (CTRL) or command (⌘) button whilst selecting multiple categories.


This is a collection of tags for your blog and is used by search engines to help users find your new blog. Tags should be simple one or two word nouns separated by commas.

When you are happy with the new blog definition, click 'Create'.

You have now created your first blog!

Edit Blog

To edit your blog, browse to your blog from the Blogs menu item and click 'Edit Blog'.

You may then modify any of the items previously set up above.

Alternatively, from the Blogs page choose 'Manage Blogs'.

Find the blog you wish to edit and click on its title to edit it.

Create a Post

To create a post, browse to your blog from the Blogs menu item and click 'Create New Post'.


This is the title of your post.


This is the content of your post. See the 'Rich Text Editor' section below for more information about creating visually effective text in this box.

Is Published

If you want your post to be published immediately after creating it, tick this box. Untick it if you want to save your post as a draft to publish later.

Publish Date

If you wish to delay the publishing of your article then enter a date and time in this box or choose from the popup calendar. The 'Is Published' tick box above must be ticked for delayed publishing to work.

To choose a different month, click the left and right arrows next to the current date and then select the date from that month from the grid. To choose a time, drag the sliders left and right until you are satisfied. Click 'Done' to choose the date and time or 'Now' to reset to the current date and time.

Embed Video URL

You may attach a video to your blog by first uploading it to YouTube or Vimeo and then pasting the video URL into this box.

When you are happy with the new post, click 'Create Post'.

You have now created your first blog post!

Edit Post

To edit a post, browse to your blog from the Blogs menu item and click 'Manage Posts'.

Find the post you wish to edit and click on 'Edit' to edit it.

Alternatively, open the blog and click the 'Edit Post' button at the foot of the post you wish to edit

or open the post itself and click 'Edit'.

Blogger Badge

To help promote your blog you may insert your blogger badge into third-party websites such as Blogger or Wordpress. To get yours, first open your user profile using the link on the top-right hand corner of the Direct2Mum website.

Click the 'Profile' tab if it is not currently visible and then choose 'Get your blogger badge'.

You will then be shown your blogger badge code to copy-and-paste to another website.
